What is Considered a Federal Crime?
Every municipality and government entity has its own set of laws. The City of Royal Oak, for example, has its own municipal laws. The federal government of the United States of America has their own set of criminal laws, which are prosecuted in the United States District Court. These laws generally are larger in scope and often apply to things that are in interest of the federal government.
These federal law could include interstate drug trafficking or terrorism, for instance. But it also consists of fraud cases involving Medicare or Medicaid. A federal case sounds serious, and it is because the stakes are high. The penalties are severe. The participants are serious. Even the federal judges are appointed for life. These are judges that are highly respected in our legal community and are appointed by the President of the United States.
